The 2021 Applegate Valley Syrah is a balanced and expressive wine with deep notes of blackberry and plum, accented by hints of black pepper, smoked meat, and a touch of violet. It has a velvety texture with well-integrated tannins and a long, lingering finish.
Where has this powerful Syrah been hiding? This is my first time trying it, and it won't be my last. Aromas of concentrated dark raspberries, grape hyacinth and white pepper careen into flavors like blackberries, rosemary and black tea. If Jack White and his guitar were a Syrah, it would be this jangly beast. — Michael Alberty
